The Little Rock Rangers Soccer Club saw plenty of exciting action over the past few days with the women facing off against Fortuna Tulsa and FC Wichita and the men having their own matchup against FC Wichita. When the dust settled, the women’s side ended the week with two draws while the men’s side earned the victory in the pivotal matchup.
The action started on Thursday as the Little Rock Rangers women took on the team from Fortuna Tulsa at War Memorial Stadium. Both sides had scoring opportunities, including a Rangers’ penalty kick in the 41st minute, but in the end, the defensive battle ended in a 0-0 draw. The women got another opportunity Saturday against conference foe and a short-sided F.C. Wichita club that was depleted from injuries. The Rangers took advantage early as Anika Kallash scored a 5th minute goal to put the Rangers ahead. The score would remain at 1-0 until the 90th minute when FC Wichita scored a last-minute goal to force the draw. In the second half of the doubleheader, Sabelo Hlongwane scored the lone goal for the Rangers men to give them the important 1-0 victory over conference leading, FC Wichita.
The victory for the Little Rock Rangers men earned them three points in the standings and put them at 18 points alongside the Tulsa Athletic. The two teams will face off in the first round of the playoffs, but first, the two sides will battle for home-field advantage. In the exact same scenario as last year, except Tulsa will travel to War Memorial Stadium this Saturday, July 7th with playoff home-field advantage on the line. The match will begin at 7:30pm and tickets are available at littlerockrangers.com/tickets.
