The Little Rock Rangers organization had a successful past few days with the men’s team picking up two conference victories and the women’s team earning a victory of their own. In a home doubleheader on Thursday, the Ranger’s women’s side beat the Demize 6-0 and the men earned a 1-0 victory to complete the sweep. The men’s side then capped the weekend off with a 1-0 victory at Ozark F.C. on Saturday.
In the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader, the Little Rock Rangers’ women’s side scored early and scored often. The team reached the back of the net in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th minutes to jump out to the early 3-0 lead. The Rangers weren’t done with their scoring ways yet and added goals in the 24th and 39th minute to lead 5-0 at halftime. The Rangers tacked on another goal in the 69th minute and the defense held strong in the 6-0 exhibition match victory. Anika Kallash led the way with three goals for the Rangers while Sairra Tucker scored two of her own and Jessica Souza tacked on another in the club’s second victory of the season.
In the nightcap, the men’s side of the Rangers and their conference foe, the Demize, found themselves in a defensive battle. The Demize held the majority of the chances on goal early, but Rangers goalkeeper, Walid Birrou, had several saves to keep the visitors at bay. The Rangers broke through with a 77th minute goal from Donald Benamna and the defense continued to hold strong to earn the team a 1-0 shutout victory. The men then traveled to Springdale on Saturday for another conference matchup against Ozark F.C. This time, it was Ulises Caba Cordova with the lone Rangers goal as the squad earned another 1-0 conference victory. The victory also gave the Rangers the 3-1 aggregate win against Ozark F.C. in the Downriver Derby.
The two conference victories for the Rangers’ men provided them with a pivotal six-point boost in the Heartland Conference Standings. At this point, the Rangers are sitting in third place with 15 points behind the Tulsa Athletic. F.C. Wichita remains in first with 21 points while Saint Louis Atletico is in 4th with 12 points. The three-game winning streak by the Rangers will set up important matches in the clubs final two conference battles against F.C. Wichita and Tulsa Athletic. The women will return to conference action this Thursday, June 28, 7pm against Fortuna Tulsa at War Memorial Stadium. Both the men and women’s sides will cap off their regular season at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, June 30 and Saturday, July 7. Tickets can be purchased at littlerockrangers.com/tickets.
