The return of semi-professional soccer to Little Rock was bittersweet. Fans returned to a close game with the Little Rock Rangers first USL game leading to a close loss against the visiting Houston Football Club. The Stags found themselves chasing the game 4 minutes in after a blocked clearance led to a goal for the visiting side. The first goal itself led the home side pushing to chase an equalizing goal.

The first clear cut chance from the waves of attack began with Ben Watson’s free kick in the 9th minute that was only denied by the crossbar. Followed by multiple shots and crosses, which all sadly fell just short of creating the equalizing goal. With multiple high-quality chances and extended stints in possession the Rangers found themselves building towards an equalizer, being pushed on by the home fans but were down 1-0 at half.

The second half led to more of the same with Rangers creating a multitude of chances in the pursuit of an equalizing goal. In the 54’th minute a golden opportunity came, as the Rangers were awarded a penalty kick for a handball in the box. The missed saved PK was a continuation of the story: chances not being taken at opportune times. However, the pattern was broken in the 57th minute as Masood Porsa scored his first goal of the season for the club. With the goal the Rangers found themselves no longer pushing to tie the game, but now trying to take the lead.

As the game dragged on the Rangers made a multitude of subs, continuing their pursuit for a home opener win. The assault continued as the Rangers chased for a lead: chances after chances created for the home side. All of which would have given the Rangers the goal they worked so hard for. However, in the 90thminute a failed clearance led to a killer blow as Houston took full advantage taking the lead. All the excellent play and chances created throughout the game were spoiled by two contested clearances.

The Rangers continue their season on the road against the AHFC royals Saturday, May 22 in Houston Texas. After their visit to Texas, the Stags will find themselves with two home games: first against Mississippi Brilla FC on May 28 at 7:00 pm and second against Texas United on June 2 at 7:00 pm.
